Question by Lynn P: Is a USA flu shot effective when planning to stay overseas during the winter?
Does it make sense to get a flu shot here in the USA when I most likely will be staying in Europe for most of the winter? Does the US vaccine have a worldwide coverage?

Best answer:

Answer by Med Tech
Hi Lynn,

Great question. The short answer is yes…the flu is the flu, is the flu!

The flu shot is a combination of the most common strains thought to be prevalent in the upcoming flu season, and does not have any geographical constraints.

As a matter of fact, the United States, France and Britain are among nine countries that pledged on Thursday to make 10 percent of their H1N1 flu vaccine supply available to other nations that may need it.

In recognition of the global nature of the pandemic, the United States is taking this action along with Australia, Brazil, France, Italy, New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland, and Britain.

So your US flu shot will get you through your winter in Europe.

Enjoy!

NBA player Metta World Peace, aka Ron Artest, apologized on Sunday, April 22, 2012, as shown in the video below, after he hit James Harden on his head using his elbow, and was immediately ejected from the game and likely to be suspended.

As reported earlier, Metta World Peace made a successful dunk with 1:39 remaining in the second quarter of the game between Los Angeles Lakers and Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday night, but later threw an elbow that hit Harden‘s head.

“During that play, I just dunked on Durant and Ibaka. I got real emotional, real excited. It’s unfortunate that James had to get hit with an unintentional elbow. I hope he’s OK.” Metta World Peace was quoted telling to reporters after the game.

“The Thunder. They’re playing for a championship this year. I really hope he’s OK and I apologize to the Thunder and to James Harden. It was such a great game. It was unfortunate so much emotion was going on at that time. That’s it for today.” The 32-year old Lakers player added.

Apparently, Ron Artest spoke for only about 41 seconds and a Lakers official interrupted follow-up questions and did not allow him to answer them, but used his official Twitter account to further air his side.

“Hope James Hardin is ok… I remember when I hit by Marc Gasol the same way.. I was spitting up blood and a headache during the game…” Metta World Peace (@MettaWorldPeace) tweeted about 8 hours ago.

“I just watched the replay again….. Oooo.. My celebration of the dunk really was too much… Didn’t even see James ….. Omg… Looks bad” Metta World Peace added, with Lakers coach Mike Brown telling reporters that he did not see the incident at all.

“I don’t want any of my guys kicked out. If somebody gets kicked out in a big game, yeah, you’re disappointed. You want him to be on the floor. I’d be wrong to say that’s OK for Metta to get kicked out.” Brown added, whose team won over the Thunder in double overtime (114-106).
